2006 London Gatwick/Hania charters begin on April 4 and from Manchester on May 2, all ending on Oct 31. (The last flights outbound from the UK are on 24 October.)
London Gatwick/Heraklion and Manchester/Heraklion begin on April 4 2006.
Most flights are on Tuesday but there are a few on other days depending on dates and departure airport.
The table below shows a selection of first and last flights of the summer season. See below for links to companies’ full timetables.
Advantages of charter flights
Wide choice of departure airports
Fly direct to your destination *
Often cheaper than scheduled
(but not always)
The main charter carriers are Excel Airways, First Choice, Monarch Airlines - with ‘sister’ companies Cosmosair and Avro, and Thomsonfly.
Although not strictly a charter company Airtours (part of the My Travel group of tour operators and agents) many flights can be booked through their web site so links have been included for convenience.
As well as dealing directly with the main charter companies it is often worth searching the sites of travel and ticket agents. We have found My Travel to be very good.
There are smaller charter operators who can only be booked through agents and fares are often very competitive.
XL timetables - This link opens XL Timetables home page. Select Summer 2006 from the drop down list and wait until the page has fully loaded.
Selecting Chania or Heraklion from the drop-down list of destinations will bring up a list of UK departure airports with first and last flight dates and flight times.
First Choice - This link takes you to the information index page. Click ‘Flight timetables’ in the list on the left of the page. In the pop-up window that appears select the departure airport and month in which you wish to travel and click ‘Get schedule’. This brings up an alphabetical list of all destinations available from the chosen departure airport with flight dates and times.
Monarch - Not a very informative ‘timetable’. It shows only destination and departure airports (see above). As they only fly to Crete from three UK airports (see above) you might as well start with the flight search.
Thomsonfly - This link takes you to ‘Find a timetable ...’. Wait until the page has fully loaded and then select Chania or Heraklion from the drop-down list of departure airports. Click the destinations list and select the UK airport you wish to use. Clicking ‘Display Timetable’ brings up details of first and last flights and departure days and times from the UK airport.
